writing prompts

Ok, I can't take looking up writing prompts anymore. They're just so... cheesy! Don't I have anything to say for myself? Writing shouldn't be this hard.

I've never been good at self expression though. Anyone who has ever talked to me on the phone about my day knows that. The only time when I become good at telling stories is when I'm in a social situation and usually a little lubed up.

So... one story a day? Even if I have to get inebriated to do it?

Chason, I had the exact same trouble when I first started with Fixpert several years back. But, you’re doing the right thing, just try to write frequently (I need to follow this advice myself).

Don’t think too much about who will be reading it on the other end because this will affect what you write. As you go about your day, just take note of little things that strike you and jot them down to remember to post about them later, that really helps too.

Once you’ve done 1 or 2 dozen posts, you won’t think twice about it any more. In fact, one of the reasons that I started Fixpert was because I didn’t feel confident in my writing skills, and I wanted a risk-free, fun way of improving on them. When I first started, I didn’t really know my own “voice” or “tone” but just out of habit, and doing it for a while, writing comes really easily for me now and I really enjoy it!

Good luck! Here’s a very early Fixpert post of mine, I think from 2005:
